Restoring Trust in Data: Vocus Fixes Critical Address Quality Issue with ACE API
With Google & Oni:
Vocus is one of Australia’s leading telecommunications providers, owning and operating over 25,000km of purpose-built fibre network infrastructure. With a focus on business and government customers, Vocus understands the critical importance of secure, high-performance network solutions.
The company is a top-three provider of Australian internet traffic. Through its well-known retail brands, Vocus also delivers simple and affordable broadband, mobile, voice, and energy services to Australian consumers and small businesses. They call it brilliant made simple.
Vocus used Onigroup’s ACE API to remove 37,000+ bad addresses, cut support tickets, streamline tools, and reach 98% building-level accuracy.
Vocus had long struggled with the quality of address data across its systems. Despite multiple internal efforts, the issue persisted and began to have significant business implications.
“Inaccurate address data was creating a high volume of support tickets that my team had to resolve. It wasn’t just a GIS issue—it was affecting multiple departments that rely on clean address data daily,” said the GIS Spatial Systems Manager at Vocus.
The company needed a reliable solution that could both cleanse the existing data and prevent future errors from entering the system.
To address these challenges, Vocus partnered with Onigroup to implement their Address Cleansing Engine API for address data validation.
ACE is an API designed to validate and fix bad addresses, typos and misspellings. It provides cleansed addresses in the correct format along with confidence scores on the result.
What made the difference wasn’t just the technology—it was the partnership.
“OniGroup provided us a tailored solution that suited our needs. From day one, their team was proactive, supportive, and thorough—offering training, workshops, and hands-on support that made all the difference,” said the GIS Manager.
Key initiatives included:
"I would like to thank the OniGroup team for working with Vocus and helping us achieve the outcome we needed. The process has been great—we felt supported and encouraged to achieve the results we were after. I also learned a lot from the technical team members of the OniGroup."
